Damian Clarkson is in the know when it comes to what is trending at weddings. His company, premium event catering company, The London Kitchen, has catered for hundreds over the years.
Here are his top 5 catering tips for weddings that he feels will help make any wedding stand out and be enjoyed by all.
1. KISS. Keep It Super Simple.
Less can mean so much more. This includes the speeches. 10 minutes per speech is more than enough to convey your gratitude and suitably embarrass those involved! Talking of simple, comfort food is in! Bangers and mash and Fish ‘n’ Chips Manapés (Manapés you ask? Look them up…). At my own wedding, my partner and I dished out bacon butties at midnight. This proved to be a big hit with our tired and danced-out guests!
2. Have a bit of fun and games with the desserts.
Fruit for the ladies, chocolate for the men and watch the ladies chase the men merely for their chocolate. Or conjure up some nostalgic puddings from your past! These ideas create some laughs and get your guests talking.
Vintage has been a trend for a long time, but try making it a bit more retro and personal. Take inspiration from family or guests and be inventive. At a Dutch wedding recently we catered different flavours of Schnapps for the toast instead of the traditional champagne. Small touches like that make your wedding stand out among the rest.
4. The Party Bag Approach
Provide something for your guests to take away to serve as a memory of your special day. For example, specially printed tea towels with the names of the happy couple and the date of their wedding day. That way the memory of your event will live on in everyone’s kitchens.
5. Photo Opportunity
Then after the event send out photos of the guests with their thank you card. A lot of weddings this year will feature photo booths for guests to pile into and have their photos taken amidst much laughter. Giving them copies of these photos will remind them of what a good time they had at your special day.
